Exploration and exploration of Siberia, 16. until 17th century V. Poyarkov
This 2001 edition was certified by PCGS with the highest grading PR70 Deep Cameo (DCAM), making it the only one currently available from PCGS.
Front
In the center – the emblem of the Bank of Russia (double-headed eagle with wings down, below – the semicircular inscription “Bank of Russia”), framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the circle: top – “Fifty rubles”. Below you can see “2001”, on the left – description of the metal and its fineness, on the right – fineness of the metal and the mark of the Moscow Mint.
Back
On the left a portrait of V. Poyarkov, below a branch of a coniferous tree, above two foxes holding a crown, a bow and two crossed arrows, on the right a floating “cook” (a sailing and rowing ship). In the background you can see the outline of the map of Eastern Siberia with the inscriptions: “Amur” and “Yakutsk”; on the circle – inscriptions: “The draft of Siberia XVI-XVII” above, below in two lines: Dates “1643-1646” and “The expedition of V. Poyarkov”.
History
The group led by Russian explorer V.D. Poyarkov first entered the Amur Basin in 1643-1646. Vasily Danilovich Poyarkov (1597-1668) was a seventeenth-century Russian pioneer who discovered Siberia and the Amur region in particular. He is remembered as the first explorer who sailed along the southwestern coast of the Sea of Okhotsk and discovered the fabulous land of Dauria and with it the northern peoples, such as the Ducher, the Nanai, the Nivkhs and others.
