Description
Japanese Oban – Commemorative Edition – 1oz Gold
In April 2021, the most expensive Japanese Hishi Oban was auctioned for $1.92 million. This beautiful 0.9999 fine gold one ounce commemorates the extremely rare Tensho era (circa 1588) coin. Only about six original specimens survived in institutions. The obverse shows the three diamond-shaped Kiri stamps along with the ink signature. The back shows the original signature design and the additional gold plug that was inserted to bring it to the prescribed weight. This commemorative coin highlights the patina of the original coin.
