This is the 2017 Krugerrand 50th Anniversary Prestige Set in Proof mintage quality. This vintage is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Krugerrand. For this special vintage, the coins were then also minted with a corresponding “50” as a mintmark. This set consists of a total of 6 coins.
What makes this issue for sale special is that it has been certified by NGC as a “First Releases” issue, with all having been graded PF69 Ultra Cameo. There are very few of these in the world.
Front:
The obverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features the world-famous portrait of Paul Kruger, after whom the series of Krugerrand coins was named. Paul Kruger, then President of South Africa (1883 to 1902), founded the mint from which the South African Mint emerged. On the edge of the coin was stamped the country of issue in English and Afrikaans.
Back:
The reverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features a springbok motif with a stylized South African steppe landscape in the background. Above this motif is engraved “1967 – 2017 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY” and the name of the coin. Likewise, the coin’s fine weight, fineness, and precious metal are shown on the obverse of the coin.
