The unique feature about this gold coin is the GRC Mintmark, which proves that this coin was minted at the Gold Reef City (GRC) Mint.

In addition, 1987 was the first year of issue of the GRC coins and the mintage was low at 1650 pieces.

Front:

The obverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features the world-famous portrait of Paul Kruger, after whom the series of Krugerrand coins was named. Paul Kruger, then President of South Africa (1883 to 1902), founded the mint from which the South African Mint emerged. On the edge of the coin was stamped the country of issue in English and Afrikaans.

Back cover:

The reverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features a springbok motif with a stylized South African steppe landscape in the background. Likewise, the coin’s fine weight, fineness, and precious metal are shown on the obverse of the coin.
