This is the 1997 1 oz Krugerrand gold coin in Proof/PP (Polished Plate) mint quality. This edition has been certified by PCGS with the very high grade PR69 DCAM (Deep Cameo). This is the highest grade achieved so far at PCGS for this vintage, so it is a so-called top pop, which is highly sought after by collectors. In addition, the coin was protected by PCGS through the “NFC anti-counterfeiting technology”.

The obverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features the world-famous portrait of Paul Kruger, after whom the series of Krugerrand coins was named. Paul Kruger, then President of South Africa (1883 to 1902), founded the mint from which the South African Mint emerged. On the edge of the coin was stamped the country of issue in English and Afrikaans.

Back cover:

The reverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features a springbok motif with a stylized South African steppe landscape in the background. Likewise, the coin’s fine weight, fineness, and precious metal are shown on the obverse of the coin.
