Description
Kurdistan – 1000 Dinar – Saladin – PCGS PF67 Deep Cameo
One side depicts the most famous of all Kurds, Salah al-Din Yusuf (Saladin), sultan of the Ayyubid dynasty and ruler of much of the Middle East from 1169-1193 A.D. He is known for driving the European Crusaders out of the Holy Land. He is shown on horseback with the modern Kurdish flag behind him.
Mountains have played a prominent role in Kurdish lore, so the other side shows four mountain peaks, which also represent the four nations with the largest Kurdish population. Above the mountains is a 21-rayed rising sun, a traditional Kurdish symbol from before the nation’s conversion to Islam.
