This is the very rare 1994 Protea 1 oz gold coin depicting the Big Five from South Africa. This copy is limited to only 1187 copies worldwide and for this reason is particularly popular with collectors and enthusiasts around the world.

What makes this specimen additionally very special is the certification by NGC with the grade PR68UCAM (Ultra Cameo).

Front:
On the obverse of the gold coin, the plant “Protea” is clearly visible in the center. The plant genus Protea (sugar bushes) is one of the typical silver tree plants found in South Africa. Around the plant you can see the inscription “Suid – Africa”, “South Africa” and the year of minting “1994”.

Back cover:
The inscription “1894 BEWARING PROTEA CONSERVATION 1994 1 oz Au” is visible on the reverse around the motif. The motif is the Big Five of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino from South Africa.
