South Africa Big Five 2020 – Rhino – Series I – 1 oz Gold – Polished Plate

You see here the 2020 issue with the Big Five Rhino of Series I of the famous Big Five series of the SA Mint from South Africa.

The South African coin is produced by the South African Mint. The Big Five Rhino Gold Coin is the third issue of the “Big Five” coin series. Short digression: the “Big Five” accordingly includes the following animals: elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, lion and leopard. The Big Five Rhino gold coin is strictly limited with a mintage of only 500 pieces worldwide and for this reason very popular with collectors and coin lovers.

What is special about the Big Five coin series? The reverse of the coins was designed with two halves of an animal portrait. This creates a very special effect: two coins side by side create a full close-up portrait of one of the Big Five, and one row shows a pack of animals (in this case, that of a herd of rhinos).

Front:

The obverse side of this rare coin depicts a full-grown rhinoceros with its prominent horns. Below this motif is clearly visible the country of origin “SOUTH AFRICA”, the series name “BIG FIVE” and the year of mintage “2020”.

Back cover:

On the reverse side you can see two halves of a rhino portrait on the gold coin. In the middle of these portraits, the nominal value “FIFTY RAND”, the weight “1oz” and the fineness “Au 999.9” can be seen in a circle.
