Krugerrand 2011 Mintmark 50 Years Decimal Coin Series 1oz Proof Gold

This is the Krugerrand Launch Set from 2011. This set consists of the 2011 Krugerrand 1 oz gold coin with the “50 Years Decimal Coin” mintmark in honor of the introduction of decimalization of South African coins, which occurred shortly before South Africa became a republic on May 31, 1961.

Included in the set is a half-ounce bimetallic locket consisting of a ¼-ounce inner ring and a 9-gram sterling silver outer ring.

The Launch Set in this issue has a very small print run of only 150 pieces.

Front:

The obverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features the world-famous portrait of Paul Kruger, after whom the series of Krugerrand coins was named. Paul Kruger, then President of South Africa (1883 to 1902), founded the mint from which the South African Mint emerged.

On the edge of the coin was stamped the country of issue in English and Afrikaans.

The reverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features a springbok motif with a stylized South African steppe landscape in the background. Likewise, the coin’s fine weight, fineness, and precious metal are shown on the obverse of the coin.

The special mintmark shows the symbol of the pound and rim (£ R) and the text “50 years”.

The set is packed in a beautiful wooden box. The set also includes a numbered certificate from the SA Mint.
